Rest days are important. If you don’t give your body time to rest then you’re not going to get the results you want and you could hurt yourself doing it. Having said that, I know it’s not always as easy as it sounds so I’ve come up with 10 ideas for things you can do on your rest days with that little bit of extra time.
Get a massage
Massages are the best! They relieve your tight muscles and are incredibly relaxing. I know that they can sometimes be expensive but it’s definitely worth looking into cheaper options such as having a shorter massage or using a voucher code. I’ve found £25 to be the average for a cheaper full body massage.
You could use your rest day as an opportunity to either catch up on some lost sleep or even get ahead if you know you’ve got a busy week planned. I often use extra sleep as a reward because it really motivates me to get things done.
Go over your fitness plan/ routine
Is your fitness routine getting a bit old now? Maybe you could use this time to tweak your plan or change up your routine so you’ve got something a bit different to look forward to.
I hate doing meal prep, I find it boring and tedious so I try to get it done on rest days when I’ve got a bit of extra time to spare.
Do your chores
If you’re the kind of person that can never find the time to clean out the kitchen cupboards, then use the extra time to get those annoying little jobs done. Here’s some examples of chores to do on your rest day: Clean out your fridge/ freezer, dust your skirting boards, top up your cleaning products, throw away any expired food in your pantry, Deep clean your bathroom.
Spend time with your friends
Use this extra time to have a catch up with some friends you rarely see. You could see a movie, have a BBQ or even just grab some coffee!
Start a new project
Is there something you’ve been meaning to try for a while but never got round to? Why not start it on your rest day! It’s the perfect opportunity to start something new.
Have a pamper evening
Pamper evening are my favourite way to spend a rest day, they’re so relaxing and you can personalize it to whatever you want. You could buy some new products to try to keep it simple with a bubble bath and a good book.
Go for a walk
If you still feel like you need to burn off a bit of energy then you could get some fresh air and go for a walk. I’ve been doing a bit more walking recently with Tom, it’s so nice to step away from the stress of everyday life and be outside for a while, whether it’s alone or with somebody else. I find it really calming and soothing when I’ve been particularly stressed.
Work on your mobility/ flexibility
Whether it’s a yoga class or just half an hour of stretching, your body will thank you for working on your flexibility and mobility.
