Tips for relaxation and de-stressing

Stress is one of those horrible things that unfortunately happens to everybody at some point in their lives. That’s why we should all have a few tricks up our sleeves to help keep it under control, so it doesn’t end up spiraling out of control. Obviously the same things don’t work for everybody but I’ve figured out a few things that help me when i’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed by something.

Take 3-5 deep breaths
This helps lower your heart rate and and it gives you something to focus on. For an even bigger effect, try envisioning your stress gathering up when you inhale and then release it when you exhale. You might need to practice this a few times before it works for you but it’s helped me a lot when I’ve been stressed! You could also try tensing (squeezing) all your muscles when you inhale and then releasing them when you exhale to physically relax your body.

Find a creative outlet
You should try to find at least 1 creative outlet to help reduce your stress levels. For me, I find working out a fantastic outlet as it burns off your adrenaline and gives you a burst of endorphins. Activities like drawing, writing and sewing are also good ways to relieve your stress! You could also try something physically active like yoga. This will also give you a burst of endorphins which will help you calm down and feel a lot more composed.

Let it out
Whether it be talking to someone or writing your thoughts down, getting your thoughts out of your head can make it much easier to think straight. Often it will make you realise how irrational or even just how small your problems are when you say it out loud. I would recommend finding a good friend you can talk to whenever you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Get organised
Organisation won’t solve all your problems but it will make them more manageable. It’s such a relief to have a tidy, organised life when something goes wrong. Also, if you’re organised then you’ll have more time to yourself which will in turn help you remain calm in unexpected situations.

I hope you find these tips as helpful as I do because relaxation is such an important thing for your mind and body. When you’re stressed it puts a strain on every part of your life, so you should try to do as much as you can to prevent it from taking hold of you.
