One thing I think a lot of people struggle with is to stay motivated. Whether it be in regards to fitness, health, work or even a hobby.
I’ve always liked the saying ‘motivation is what gets you started but it’s habit that keeps you going’ because it’s so true!
It’s unrealistic to think that you can be motivated 100% of the time. So what do you do on the days you wake up feeling unmotivated and uninspired? Do you roll over and go back to sleep? Do you give up on your goals? No! You keep going even though you don’t feel like it, because you know that tomorrow, when you do feel motivated again, you’ll be so proud of yourself for persevering.
Having said that though, there are of course ways to stay motivated for longer and to regain motivation when you’ve lost it. I’ve played around a bit with different ways of doing this and found that, for me, these are the best ways to keep motivated.
Keep your goals in mind
This can be done in a million different ways (slight exaggeration ;). but whichever way you decide to do it, it’s bound to help with your motivation!
I like the idea of having some sort of ‘focus’ board full of inspiring pictures and quotes somewhere where you’ll see it everyday to remind you of what you’re striving for. I also use the Pinterest app on my phone to create the same effect on the go.
Another way you could do it is to keep a ‘motivation diary‘. You can write in it when you’re feeling motivated and/ or inspired and then look back on it when you need a little push. I’ve done this before and I really enjoyed doing it!
I’m not going to lie, I’m a big fan of treating myself to inspire motivation!
For example, when I was lacking motivation with my blog, I bought myself a beautiful blogger’s planner from paperchase and it immediately made me want to start planning and writing and creating content for my bog! I also did this when I was in a lull with my fitness, I bought myself a new gym outfit and as soon as it came in the post I immediately felt 10X more motivated to get back into the swing of things!
Obviously this one could be challenging to do if you’re on a budget or if you’re saving for something important but you don’t have to buy something to treat yourself. You could treat yourself to a pamper day or just a day off to veg out in front of the TV, you could have a cheat meal or a glass of wine. Literally anything that you would consider a ‘treat’ can be used here!
Break out of your routine
This is one that I’ve done fairly recently and it’s honestly made me feel so motivated and determined to get in a really good shape with my fitness!
My boyfriend and I have started climbing together, we went climbing over a year ago but had to stop due to his injury (not a climbing injury!) and have recently started going again.
Climbing, for me, has been a huge help to my confidence. I was finding it very hard to trust myself on the wall and it’s made me realise my weak points in terms of strength and technique, so I can now focus on my weak points in order to get better at it.
I hope you find this post helpful if you’re in a rut with your motivation!
