When you first start a blog it’s so exciting, there’s so many different things to think about and do that it can actually become a bit overwhelming. That’s why I’ve written this post, to stop you from feeling overwhelmed so you can focus on the fun part, blogging!
I am by no means an expert in blogging and these tips are just my own opinions from my experience with blogging. Please remember that what you do with your blog is completely up to you and no one can tell you what to do with it! This post is for anyone that would like a bit of advice.
Do your research – Look at lots of other blogs within the same theme as yours to get an idea of what’s already out there. This will help you make yours a bit different and will also show you what you do and don’t like on a blog.
Create some sort of plan/ schedule – You can always adapt it as you go but it will make your life so much easier when you can see what has and hasn’t been done. I’m a big fan of using spreadsheets and if you search for examples of content calendars on Google there are millions of examples!
Start networking with other bloggers now – I can’t stress how important and useful this is! The blogging community will provide you with help and advice when you get stuck with something. That’s on top of endless post ideas, support and encouragement. You’ll also get all the joy of being part of such a fantastic community.
Learn the technical basics – You don’t need a degree in IT but it’s helpful to know a little bit about SEO’s (Search Engine Optimization) and back linking. I would recommend WordPress over Blogger but that’s just my personal opinion because I find it works better for me.
Remember that the quality of your posts is a LOT more important than the number of posts you have – I’ve made this mistake before with previous blogs. Trying to get a load of posts published so you’ve got lots of content is honestly not worth it!
Proof read – You’d be amazed at what silly mistakes can slip past your eye, so make sure you proof read everything you write several times!
Stay true to yourself – I know you’ve heard it a million times but if you’re not blogging about something you genuinely care about or you’re giving fake opinions, you’ll regret it! Your readers can easily see when you are and aren’t passionate about the topic and being fake will get you no-where.
